MAPAA’s Bikaneri Fofaliya – Dried Tind / Tinda / Tindsi is called Fofaliya which is mainly found in Rajasthan. The people of Rajasthan love to eat Fofaliya and the Jain community and Marwadi community is the highest consumer of this product in India.
It is a creeper which produces big yellow flowers. The Tinda / Tindsi tree leaves are long around 10 to 20 centimeters and have a hairy long stem. The fruits are usually oval in shape and grow up to 30 centimeters in diameter.
Plant propagation is done by seeds. Tinda or Fofaliya has significant fiber content, which helps to prevent instances of constipation, bloating, and cramping of the stomach, upon ingestion of a heavy meal.
Moreover, its laxative nature regulates bowel movements, thereby easing any discomfort experienced in the gut.
Tinda / Tindsi or Fofaliya comprises vast reserves of vitamin B6 i.e. pyridoxine, which is involved in smooth transmission of impulses and signals via the nerves, as well as in the synthesis of mood-regulating neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine.
